Turner: PS3 Network Has All The Capabilities
by Robert Gordon
When it comes to their respective online networks, PS3 is still a bit behind Xbox 360.
After all, the 360 has got that whole in-game XMB advantage at the moment. But PlayStation 3 has Home on the way, and in-game XMB is reportedly coming later this year.
Army of Two assistant producer Matt Turner recently spoke about working on the PlayStation Network.
"There are extra challenges [with PSN] just because the PS3 is newer to our team so we've had to work through some growing pains, getting used to a whole new system of development," Turner said in an interview with CVG.
PS3 Budget Line Unveiled Overseas
by Chris Naughton
One thing you can always count on with Sony's PlayStation brand is that there's eventually going to be a budget line consisting of slightly older hit titles.
And it looks like Sony Japan will be the first to debut the PS3 series, the name of which will be "PlayStation 3 the Best".
IGN is reporting that the first five in the "Best" series will be: Resistance, FolksSoul, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gundam: Target in Sight, and Ridge Racer 7.
Each game will sell for 3,800 yen each, which translates to about a 2,200 yen per title savings for first-party games. Third-party savings will be about a 1,000 yen more.
EA: With PS3, We're Still A Bit Behind
by Billy Brown
When it comes to developing for PlayStation 3, EA CEO John Riccitiello admits there's still a lot of room for improvement.
"Games where we led development on the PS3 platform, like Burnout, which is doing very well on the market today, we had no issue at all," he said in a recent conference call.
"But in circumstances where we either led on the Xbox 360 or ran parallel production, for the most part, we're still experiencing some delay on the PS3. It's a little bit more of a challenging development environment for us."
Rumor: New PS3 Will Be 160GB And Slimmer
by M. Renton
Another day, another PS3 rumor has emerged.
The latest comes from T3, which claims they have a well-informed insider. This source claims that the newest PlayStation 3 model will be both fatter and slimmer.
The PS3 will be fatter in that it will have a whopping 160 gigabyte hard drive. It will be slimmer in terms of the external width and actual weight of the console.
Sony has given the usual response of refusing to comment and rumor and speculation. T3, however, counters that that's "exactly what they said before they dropped the size zero edition of the PSP."

Gartner Predicts Blu-ray Will Beat HD DVD
by Billy Brown
It used to be that you'd have to go out on a limb to predict the winner of the high definition DVD race, but now that Warner Brothers has jumped ship from HD DVD to go exclusively with Blu-ray, it doesn't seem to take a crystal ball anymore.
Research firm Gartner is latest to chime in with their official analysis and they not only predict that "Blu" will prevail, but that the war will be over by the end of the year.
"Warner's shift from producing in both formats to Blu-ray alone has left HD DVD with just Paramount and Universal as its major Hollywood supporters, both of which account for only 30% of all HD movies," wrote analyst Hiroyuki Shimizu in Gartner's latest newsletter.

by Robert Gordon
There are a lot of Xbox 360 gamers that blame Sony's PS3 as being the reason for the delay for GTA IV.

by Chris Naughton
There are various rumors popping up about various forms and prices for PS3, and Sony is swiftly going about the business of denying them.
The first is the rumor that there's going to be a ceramic white PS3 unveiled in North America to follow the one that's already in Japan. Filings with the FCC have even shown pictures of the alleged PlayStation 3.
Sony says no dice.
“As you may know, there are many FCC filings like this each year. We haven't made any announcements about upcoming PS3 plans, but are comfortable with our current two sku strategy,” the company said in a statement.
Best Buy: 80GB PS3 Is Gone, Daddy, Gone Forever

Looks like those days are done.
According to an alleged internal memo received from a Best Buy employee by PS3 Fanboy, the 80GB console is being discontinued almost immediately. And the 80GB system was the last one that was backwards compatible.
"The 80GB version of the PlayStation 3 is going closeout and won't be replaced at this time," reads the memo.

However, the title is published by Microsoft and Tecmo...key word being Microsoft. It's always been listed as an Xbox 360 exclusive.
New PS3 Price Cut Rumors Are Spreading
by Mark Renton
There are rumors of a new PS3 price cut down to a staggering $299 coming as soon as January 28.
While the initial thought of a PlayStation 3 price slash so close to the last one seems farfetched, the talk is stemming from Slickdeals.net. And they're the ones who predicted the previous cuts for both PS3 and Xbox 360 a few weeks before it happened.
Also adding fuel to the fire is the fact that Sony has recently announced that production costs for the console has massively decreased, so in theory the company could afford to bring it down to $299.

It appears that PS3 gamers are going to once again be getting the short end of the stick when it comes to Sega's Virtua Fighter 5.

Now, the Xbox 360 version has received a lovely patch that improves multiple aspects of both online and offline play.
And what about PS3?
"At this time SEGA has no plans to release a patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Virtua Fighter 5," Sega's Jay Boor has just informed PS3 Fanboy.
