Capcom Gripes That PS3 Doesn't Support Betas
by Robert Gordon
Seth Killian, a senior manager for the Capcom Community, says that the company would love to have a PS3 beta for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix just like they do for Xbox 360.
The only problem, asserts Killian, is that Sony doesn't support beta programs for PlayStation 3.
"As for not having a beta program on PSN, it has already been stated that this is due to a technical issue with Sony. As in, they don't support such a program yet," he was quoted by Spong as saying.
O'Connor Talks Making Unreal Work On PS3
by Billy Brown
High Moon vice president Paul O'Connor recently talked about working on using the Unreal engine for the upcoming title The Bourne Conspiracy, scheduled to be released on both Xbox 360 and PS3.
Like some others in the same boat, it turns out that High Moon had a difficult time getting things to work smoothly on PlayStation 3...in the beginning.
"We needed a lot of support on Unreal to make it run on the PlayStation 3. We got caught in the same crunch as everybody else when [Epic] finalized Gears [Of War], so that definitely slowed down the PS3 support at the time," O'Connor told Gamasutra.
Malenfant: PS3 Will Beat Xbox 360 This Gen
by Chris Naughton
PS3 has beaten Xbox 360 for two months in a row now in North America, and there's signs that this is going to be a trend.
Microsoft has countered that the only reason PlayStation 3 has passed them in sales recently is because they've had problems with keeping up with supply, and that those problems are now over.
However, Didier Malenfant, the studio head behind God of War: Chains of Olympus, thinks that Sony's console is going to be the next gen champion.
PS3 Home: Sony Wants To Give Users Key Tools
by M. Renton
John Venables, creative director and lead artist of Sony's PS3 Home, recently talked about the upcoming project, and expressed that he wants the users to be more in command than ever before.
"From day one we're going to give [users] basic customisation, analogous with other games," he conveyed to GI.biz.
"But we will hopefully be increasing the tools that we give to users over time, to give them more control, maybe to ultimately provide their own content."
PS3 Haze: Retailer Makes Offer You Can't Refuse?
by Billy Brown
Just as Don Corleone famously made "an offer you can't refuse" in The Godfather, EB Games and GameStop are reportedly doing something similar with the PS3 release of Haze.
According to a flyer obtained by the website Dark Zero, the retailers will give PlayStation 3 gamers the opportunity to play the title risk-free.
"Pre-purchase Haze and get full in-store credit back when you trade Haze in within one week of pickup!" proclaims the flyer.
Bethesda: Fallout 3 (PS3, Xbox 360) Has Many Similarities With Oblivion
by Robert Gordon
Fallout 3 still isn't scheduled to hit PS3, Xbox 360, and PC until fall, but there hasn't been much new information on the title.
Thankfully, GamePro got some quality time with Fallout 3 executive producer Todd Howard to ask about how the Bethesda title will compare with Oblivion.
Howard must have been expecting the question.
"The overall game flow feels like Oblivion, in that you make your own character and then explore a huge open world and do whatever you want. The basic gameplay of Fallout 3 is similar, which is one of the reasons we really wanted to do Fallout in the first place," he responded.
Nyko Beats PS3 DualShock 3 To The Punch
by Chris Naughton
Sony's DualShock 3 is finally hitting North America on April 15th, but there's temporary hope for PS3 gamers who need their rumble fix immediately.
Nyko's Zero Wireless is now shipping, and the third party PlayStation 3 peripheral has full rumble feedback for supported games as well. Of course, there's a catch -- it's $59.99 as opposed to $54.99 for the first-party peripheral.
On the other hand, the specs are somewhat better than PS3's Dual Shock 3 in certain areas, including range, battery life, backlighting and dissipating heat.
Watanabe Talks PS3 Eye Of Judgment Expansion
by M. Renton
Eye Of Judgment was a trailblazer for PlayStation 3 -- it was the first PS3 title to take advantage of the PlayStation Eye when it was released last October.
But that's old news by now and Sony is already set to release an expansion pack with a new set of cards at the end of the month.
Creator Yusuke Watanabe explained to PS3 Fanboy how distribution will work:
The Set 2 data will be a purchased download on the PSN and players will have to buy cards separately at select retail outlets. Regarding the download, each region will have different pricing based on their market – a US announcement should be made soon. There will be a patch for people who don't buy Set 2 so they can still play against Set 2 owners. Unfortunately, there are no retail disc plans for Set 2, yet.
EA: No Specific Plans For PS3 or Xbox 360 Crysis...Yet
by Billy Brown
It looks like the report from the UK magazine PSW about Crysis coming to PS3 may have been premature at best.
The mag had stated that it was "no secret" that Crysis is coming to PlayStation 3 and that it would arrive by the end of 2008. The other big news was that the console version was going to be 50% new.
Not so fast, says Colin Robinson of EA.
Asked about the title coming to consoles (Xbox 360 or PS3) Geekpulp, he explained that "There are no specific plans at the moment but obviously it is not something that we will rule completely."
D3 Talks PS3 Entitlements
by Robert Gordon
When D3 Publisher announced their list of Xbox 360 achievements today, they also included a similar list of PS3 entitlements.
Entitlements were mentioned back in 2006 as an Xbox 360 achievements sort of doppleganger, but nothing universally has become of it yet. Some individual first party PlayStation 3 titles have rewards like "medals", but it's been more the exception than the rule.
"We were already in the process of implementing entitlements in-game when we heard the news that they would be integrated by Sony and have more of a presence," said Josh Austin a producer at D3 Publisher to MTV Multiplayer.
Sony: PS3 In-Game XMB This Summer!
by M. Renton
In-game XMB, the much anticipated holy grail for PS3 gamers, is closer than ever to becoming a reality.
SCE UK boss Ray Maguire mentioned the upcoming new features to the PlayStation 3 cross media bar whilst talking up Sony sales to MCV.
"Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios," he told the website.
PS3 Blu-ray Not Big Enough For All Of MGS4
by Billy Brown
We always knew that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots was going to be a big game for PS3.
But we had no idea the upcoming PlayStation 3 title was going to be so big that there wouldn't be enough space on a Blu-ray disc to contain everything that Kojima productions wanted to squeeze in. After all, Blu-ray can hold 50GB worth of data.
But in an interview with Famitsu (translated by Kotaku), Hideo Kojima indicated it just wasn't enough room.
Yet Another PS3 Crysis Rumor Emerges
by Chris Naughton
If we had a nickel for every time there was a rumor that the PC giant Crysis was coming to PS3, we'd have at least a dollar by now. Maybe two or three.
The newest report comes from PSW, a magazine from the UK. The magazine insists that it's "no secret" it's coming to PlayStation 3 and that it will hit the console by year's end. And even more surprising: the game will supposedly be 50% new.
"Now it's no secret that Crysis is coming to PS3 this year. The excitable, hard-worked coders over at Crytek have said as much in many interviews - they've even produced a new, multi-platform engine in readiness - but the real juice here is that it won't be a straight conversion of the PC game," reports the mag.
PS3 Orange Box About To Get Patched
by Robert Gordon
Valve's Orange Box on PS3 has been impressive, but there are still bugs that have needed some patching since the set was first released.
But now it's March, and it's going to be this month that the connectivity and lag problems will finally be patched once and for all...we hope, at least.
Below is an e-mail that EA sent to a customer about the nagging PS3 issue, courtesy of the Gamespot forums:
Metal Gear Solid 4 100% Confirmed, Dated
by Robert Gordon
It seems like forever that we've been waiting for the PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to actually be released; the delays have been agonizing.
But today, Konami has finally announced a hard release date for both North America and Europe. So mark June 12, 2008 on your calendars, boys and girls, for that is MGS4 day.
"Blockbuster events and premieres are a tradition of the summer," said Kazumi Kitaue, Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. Chairman and CEO. "We anticipate that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots fits that bill perfectly, and consumers will be waiting in line to get their copy of the game just like it's a hit Hollywood movie."
