Heavy Rain Confirmed As PS3 Title That Left Reporter Speechless?
by Robert Gordon
Late last February, a BBC reporter was shown a trailer for a PS3 title that blew him away.
"I don't mean to be a tease - all I can say is that I was left speechless....We could be on the brink of a step change in what games consoles are capable of in terms of story-telling and immersion," gushed Darren Waters of BBC News.
Alas, the man had to be a tease because he was made to sign a non-disclosure agreement before witnessing the trailer for the PlayStation 3 game.
Sony: PS3 Store Update Will Bring Improvements
by Robert Gordon
When PS3 gamers go to the PlayStation 3 store on April 15th, they will see a new, improved site.
According to Sony, it will include an upgrade in the navigational structure, added functionality, and more new content than you can shake a stick at.
The PS3 content o'plenty starts off with the debut of the Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta. Other new additons will include Warhawk: Operation Broken Mirror, as well as the Lair: Diabolical Dragons Pack and Skyguard Upgrade pack. We're assuming that's where the analog controls will turn up.
PS3 Lair Finally Getting Analog Controls!
by Chris Naughton
It looks like one of the biggest miscalculations in the history of PS3 gaming is about to be corrected.
When Lair debuted on PlayStation 3, it was aesthetically pleasing but almost unplayable because of poor tilt control.
"How to mess up a game in which you ride a dragon is quite simple. You make the control of that dragon answerable to motion-sensing technology that can’t distinguish subtle or even very forced gestures in anything like the detail required," complained Edge Magazine.
Haze Screenwriter Reaffirms PS3 Exclusivity Repeatedly
by Billy Brown
Ubisoft hasn't been very big on giving exclusives to a particular console.
So rumors have abounded that Haze either isn't going to be a PS3 exclusive or if it is, it will be a timed exclusve that will soon jump to Xbox 360.
Free Radical’s script writer, Rob Yescombe, is having none of that. He is adamant that it's only coming to Sony's console, and recently told RipTen that in no uncertain terms when asked about the rumors.
Additional Refinements Coming To PS3 Gran Turismo 5
by M. Renton
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is probably the best looking racing game to ever hit a console. If you squint your eyes just a little, it really does look like you're watching real video on your PS3.
But when the full fledged GT5 finally hits PlayStation 3, it looks like the graphics may be even better than what we're seeing with Prologue.
"In terms of quality we've been able to establish a benchmark in this version, but I think with GT5 there will be additional refinements, perhaps to the lighting and maybe the weather... weather effects," Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi told Videogamer.com.
Sony: 2008 Will Be About PS3 Software, Blu-ray, Network
by Robert Gordon
Sony had some problems early on with PS3, but everything seems to be falling into place these days. A comfortable price point has been located, sales have been outpacing Xbox 360 lately, Blu-ray won, and there's a plethora of exciting games both on the shelves and coming later this year.
Naturally, Scott Steinberg, VP of Product Marketing at SCEA, is excited about what's been going on and what's in store for PlayStation 3 in 2008.
"The software lineup is here. I think we're at the point to say we're ecstatic about what we have in 2008. It's finally to the point where there are no standards uncertainties, so consumers now can evaluate us on the skills and attributes of our lineup, and we've got an incredibly diverse lineup," he excited told GD.BIZ in a recent interview.

by Chris Naughton
Don't hold your breath on seeing any single player Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare downloadable content available for your PS3 or Xbox 360 anytime soon.
On the other hand, Infinity Ward won't rule it out altogether.
“I wouldn't rule it out but we don't have any plans for that right now," programmer John Shining told Videogamer.com.
Infinity Ward explained that when it comes to first person shooters, devs lean towards releasing new multiplayer content.
Sony Address: PS3 GT5 Prologue Delay
by Billy Brown
The much-anticipated release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was slightly delayed, causing temporary heartache to many PS3 gamers.
"Unfortunately due to some last minute technical difficulties, we were unable to publish the new content to the PS Store yesterday," Sony said in a statement to CVG.
"We are working to resolve these issues and will let you know as soon as new content is posted," the company added.
However, the delay was short lived; Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is now available on the PlayStation Network.
Yikes: PS3 Network Hacked, But Security Restored
by Robert Gordon
Nobody wants to power up their PS3 only to discover that their personal information may have been accessed by hackers.
But Sony has posted on their website that security for the PlayStation Network had been temporarily compromised, though the company says it has now been restored.
"Although unlikely, it is possible that the passwords of a small percentage of PlayStation Network users may have been changed through unauthorised access, making it possible to view users' personal information and/or use the wallet for the PlayStation Store," Sony wrote on the official website.
PS3 2.20 Update Hits: No Portable Copy To Be Found
by M. Renton
PS3 owners who turned on their consoles this morning were welcomed with the previously announced firmware 2.20 update.
According to PC World, the best feature was going to be taking any Blu-ray movie on the go in regular def via PSP.
"The firmware also exposes 'Portable Copy' which enables PS3 users to copy a standard-definition version of the Blu-ray movie to a PlayStation Portable," the website reported.
Didn't happen.
Instead, here's what we got:
PS3 Firmware 2.20 Is Going Portable
by Billy Brown
The much anticipated PS3 firmware update to version 2.20 hasn't happened yet, but there's plenty of buzz about what it will contain.
It's already known that the PlayStation 3 update will include the Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0, otherwise known as BD-Live. BD-Live will enable the console to access extra content downloaded straight from the internet.
But the more interesting feature about added connectivity between the console and Sony's PlayStation Portable comes by way of PC World. The magazine asserts that 2.20 will let PS3 owners replicate their Blu-ray movies onto their PSP.
PS3 MotorStorm Sequel Has A Name
by Billy Brown
MotorStorm was a hit PS3 first party title from Sony, and the next one is already in the works.
While not much is known about the upcoming title, a tidbit of information has surfaced -- the game has a name.
The website geekpulp talked to Warwick Light, a General Manager of Sales/Marketing at Sony, who spilled the beans.
"From this interview we not only gained insight into what we can look forward to and the games that Sony are backing to be successful, we also learnt the name of the next installment of MotorStorm will be called MotorStorm: Pacifica," declared the website.
Media Molecule: PS3 LittleBigPlanet Is Moving Toward Alpha
by Chris Naughton
LittleBigPlanet is the kind of project that can change the face of gaming -- and it's only going to be available on PS3.
Of course, the big question is when. The PlayStation 3 tentpole, developed by Media Molecule, made its debut at the Game Developers Conference a little over a year ago. But since then it's been a prolonged tease.
However, Media Molecule is working their magic behind the scenes and recently updated the company website to let people know what's going these days.
2008: The Year For PS3?
by Billy Brown
2007 was the year for Wii, but will 2008 be the year for PS3?
According to The Digital Home's Don Reisinger, this is the year for PlayStation 3 -- and who are we to argue the point?
Reisinger lists three main reasons that it's the time for Sony's next-gen console to shine, the first being that HD DVD tanked and Blu-ray won the high-def race.
Blaming Microsoft for missing the boat with Xbox 360's choice of HD DVD, he asserts that "considering the cost of owning either console is quite close if we match specs to specs, and a 40GB PS3 is actually $50 cheaper than an Xbox 360 Elite, why wouldn't someone buy the better-equipped device?"
PS3 Call Of Duty 4 Patch Has Arrived
by M. Renton
Xbox 360 gamers got their Call Of Duty 4 patched earlier this month; it was promised later in the month for PS3.
Robert Bowling, Director of Communications and Community Manager for Infinity Ward, gave word recently that Sony is in the last stages of certifying the patch for the PlayStation 3 version of COD 4.
He went on to say that it was definitely coming this week. The man was holding his cards tight to his chest -- it arrived a few hours ago.
The features in the patch should include the following, courtesy of PSU:
