Sony: PS3, PS2, PSP Not Competing With Nintendo Or Microsoft
by Robert Gordon
When it comes to their last gen, next-gen, and handheld offerings, Sony does not belief that their competition comes from either Microsoft or Nintendo.
Instead, they have a broader philosophy of who they're competing with.
“I think that PS3, PS2 and PSP are all entertainment platforms so I feel that our competition is not Microsoft or Nintendo, but basically any form of entertainment that is competing for the consumers’ attention,” SCE president Kaz Hirai said in an interview with MCV.
Sony: PS3 Home Is Great, But Needs More Time
by Chris Naughton
While it seems like forever since Home was originally announced by Sony, it looks like we're finally going to see the full debut this September.
"I said at the Tokyo Game Show that I would not open up Home until I was completely happy with it and I still stand by that statement," Sony prez Kaz Hirai said of the PlayStation 3 virtual community at PlayStation Day.
"We have been testing Home for some time and I simply feel that, as great as it currently is, it needs a little bit more time before it is ready for the wider public, something we firmly believe we can provide in the autumn."
Another PS3 GTA IV Temporary Fix?
by Billy Brown
While Take Two must be working overtime to try to fix the problems that are haunting the PS3 version of GTA IV for some people, there's another temporary solution that may do the trick.
According to PSU, one trick may be to simply sign out of the PlayStation Network prior to booting up.
Here's their "somewhat guarantee" about the trick:
I can at least somewhat guarantee the success of this method. I was plagued by an endless loading screens upon booting up the game, and I tried everything to remedy the situation - reinstalling the game, deleting the most recent save (out of two), swapping GTA IV discs, playing the game on a separate profile and so on. Nothing worked. Then I signed out of PSN and began the title, and viola, Niko stood amidst the denizens of Liberty City!
Take Two Has Advice For Fixing PS3 GTA IV Woes
by Chris Naughton
Take-Two feels your pain when it comes to GTA IV freezing and/or locking up during PlayStation 3 play.
While the company doesn't have a definitive explanation as to what's causing the problem or a fix that works 100% of the time, they have offered some steps to take to try to alleviate the problems.
It's better than nothing, we suppose. And here they are, courtesy of Game|Life:
Delete the game's install data. This is done via the PS3 options. Scroll along the cross media bar until you reach the 'Game' tab, now scroll up / down the list until you reach the 'Game Data Utility' Enter this and locate the GTA IV option. Highlight this and press triangle once, from the menu select Delete. This will delete the game's install information.
Analyst: Brand Loyalty Helps PS3 GTA IV
by M. Renton
Despite the fact that the PS3 version of GTA IV is going through a wee bit of growing pains the first few days, it looks like sales of PlayStation 3 consoles have been helped by the must-have title.
"Grand Theft Auto fans who love the game grew up on PlayStation and we believe that rich heritage will be a deciding factor for many gamers at retail," said Peter Dille, Senior Vice President, Marketing & PLAYSTATION Network. "This enthusiasm for GTA IV, combined with the excitement behind Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet, and Resistance 2 will further drive PS3 hardware sales."
Sony: We're Looking Into PS3 GTA IV Online Issues
by Robert Gordon
It's a particularly frustrating time for many PS3 gamers who are desperately trying to get online to play GTA IV and are instead discovering connection issues.
What some are failing to realize is that this is not the fault of Sony or the PlayStation Network -- the PS3 version is required to run over Rockstar's servers, not Sony's. That's why PSN is up and running beautifully while GTA IV is the sole title that's lagging.
Luckily for Xbox 360 gamers, they are getting their online experience through Live and are not suffering for it at the moment.

by Chris Naughton
The aptly named Fatal Inertia was originally announced as a PS3 exclusive, then was released first on Xbox 360, and is now finally going to hit via the PlayStation Network in May.
And it now has a nifty little "EX" at the end of it, too!

Blockbuster Offers New PS3 Bundle
by Billy Brown
Blockbuster has decided to get more aggressive in the video game department, offering more hardware and variety than ever before.
And it looks like that means a new PS3 bundle, which upon examination, isn't exactly earth shattering. The retailer is offering a 40GB PS3, DVD remote, HDMI cable, Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray, a Blockbuster 12-week rental card, and the Transformers game all for the decent price of $500. Did we mention it's not exactly earth shattering?

While European PS3 gamers have gotten their karaoke fix since last December, North Americans have had to sit and wait.
However, the title's finally coming here in the end of May, and PS3Fanboy has some details about our version of the title.

New DLC For PS3's Disgaea 3
by M. Renton
Disgaea 3 hasn't even come to North America, but PS3 gamers in Japan are eating it up.
Now they're already getting some new downloadable content to add insult to injury. Siliconera is reporting that on April 25th the PlayStation 3 update will hit with ten playable super powerful characters.
"If you clear the game and Mao’s level is higher than one of the additional characters he/she will join your party. One character joins at a time and Nippon Ichi has not announced what level Mao needs to be to recruit any of them," reports the website.
Analyst Bemoans State Of Blu-ray, Blames PS3
by Billy Brown
According to at least one analyst, "the state of the Blu-ray player market is not all that encouraging," all because of the fact that the market has heavily leaned on PS3 to date.
“The studios better hope that people are playing movies on their PlayStations, otherwise there’s very little installed base," warned ABI Research analyst Steve Wilson, whose Consumer Video Technologies Forecasts were excerpted by Next Generation.

by Robert Gordon
Is August the month that Sony finally breaks even with the PS3?
Just this morning, Nikko Citigroup upgraded its Sony rating due to the prospect of it breaking even on PlayStation 3 costs even earlier than had been previously thought, according to Engadget.
The industry gurus say that August is the big month for Sony to hit the milestone. Previously, analysts had forecasted November as the month Sony goes over the hump.
Sony Explains Sluggish PS3 Sales For March
by Chris Naughton
2008 started out with a bang for Sony, with PS3 outselling its next-gen competition Xbox 360 for both January and February.
And it looked like March was going to continue the trend -- Wedbush Morgan analyst extraordinaire Michael Pachter predicted that PlayStation 3 was going to top Xbox 360 by a 55,000 units for the month.
But it didn't happen. The NPD Group has released its numbers, and Sony came in third for the first time this year.
"Our sales momentum continues to defy what is traditionally a sluggish sales month. PS3 continued the strong momentum with a year-over-year sales growth of over 98%," explained Sony's Jack Tretton.
Full GT5 Won't Hit PS3 Til Summer 2009 At The Earliest
by Billy Brown
Producers for GT5 have confirmed once again that the full Gran Turismo 5 will not hit PS3 until summer of 2009 at the earliest.
Until then, we'll have Prologue to play with on PlayStation 3, and they promised both updates and patches in an interview on the PlayStation Blog.
It looks like they're still working on damage for the PS3 game, so we'll have to wait a little longer for that feature.
PS3 To Beat Xbox 360 For Third Consecutive Month
by M. Renton
2008 has been a great year for PS3.
For the third consecutive month, PlayStation 3 outsold Xbox 360 in the USA, according to the analysis of Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.
Next Generation is reporting that the analyst predicted that Sony sold 365,000 PS3 units for the month of March, while Microsoft sold 310,000 in total. The actual figures will come in from the NPD Group on Thursday.
Nintendo's Wii remained the best seller of the latest consoles, however. Pachter's forecast shows that a total of 700,000 Wiis flew off the shelves during the same month.
