Rumor: PS3 XMB Meets Minority Report
by Billy Brown
Rumors should be treated as such, so be forewarned not to get excited about the following PS3 rumor.
Especially consider the fact that the source of this particular piece of PlayStation 3 gossip comes from a small website whose source is "my friend’s friend’s uncle at SCEJ". Honestly.
With all of those warnings out of the way, here's what Joystick Radio is reporting about the future of Sony's interactivity:
Bionic Commando Is Coming To PS3 In Two Forms
by Chris Naughton
There's a whole lot of Bionic Commando coming to PS3 this year.
Besides the previously announced sequel that's coming to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows, it appears there's a "remake" coming as well.
IGN reports that the new issue of Famitsu has a sneak peek at the newly unveiled Bionic Commando: Master D Revival Plan, a 3D remake of the original (known in Japan as Hitler's Revival).
The title promises to keep the vibe of the first one, which probably indicates side-scrolling gameplay. In addition, Capcom is upping the ante with a simultaneous two player mode, secret areas, and some undisclosed elements that will connect the classic game to the new full 3D version.
Rumor: 20 Secret PS3 Exclusive Games In Development
by Mark Renton
The potential for a whopping twenty exclusive PS3 titles that are secretly in development is enough to make any PlayStation 3 owner salivate.
And if a story from Team Ico Gamers is to believed, that's exactly what's in store. The only problem is the usual one -- it's completely unsubstantiated and has to be taken 100% on faith. So don't consider this one in stone by a long shot.
"Yesterday in a heated IM discussion about which of the three console makers is going to have the strongest line-up this year, a friend of mine who works at Sony Computer Entertainment Japan blurted out that Sony's internal studios have up their sleeves more than 20 yet-to-be-revealed projects for PlayStation 3," the website reports.

PS3 Lost Planet Gets Exclusive Playable Character
by Billy Brown
When Lost Planet came out in December of 2006, it was an exclusive Xbox 360 title from Capcom. A few months later, it was released on PC.
And finally, in February, it's coming to PS3. Because PlayStation 3 gamers have had to wait so long for the well-received title, Capcom decided to throw in a little bonus.
Yes, Gaming Today is reporting that Rick's sister, Luka, is going to a playable character on the PS3 port of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. Their source is Famitsu, so it's good as gold.
Free Radical Explains PS3 Haze Delay
by Chris Naughton
The recent confirmation that Haze for PS3 has been delayed is certainly heartbreaking.
But we have to give credit to Free Radical for being open and for having such a cozy relationship with their customer base. The company recently blogged about the upcoming PlayStation 3 title and explained why we're just going to have to wait it out.
"Soooo, Haze is delayed. But you already know that, don't you. Well, the simple fact of the matter is, any delay on a game is a good thing - it's more time to optimize and polish and tweak and generally improve the whole damn thing to the Nth degree. Now, I know that some of you patient folks out there will be bitterly disappointed.
Hirai Shoots For PS3 Profitability For 2008
by Mark Renton
Ever since the new PS3 models and pricing were announced, sales have been steadily improving.
But like all good head honchos, Sony's Kaz Hirai would like to see the company turn a profit.
"We want to get to the positive side of the equation as quickly as possible," said Hirai at the Consumer Electronics Show.
Of course, this is not a guarantee from Kaz, since his desk is most likely not equipped with a crystal ball. But the man has a goal and a plan, and that's what shareholders like to hear.
More PS3 Good News: Target Going Blu-ray Exclusive?
by Mark Renton
It goes without saying that PS3 owners have a stake in the high definition race.
Sony has always backed Blu-ray, packing in the technology in every PlayStation 3 sold. Microsoft, on the other hand, is pro HD DVD, and they sell an external HD DVD drive to hammer home the point.
As long as there are dueling technologies, the consumer loses out. While Blu-ray has exclusive deals with most studios, Paramount releases their high definition movies solely on HD-DVD. So nobody gets to watch Transformers in high-def on a PS3. And that makes us sad.
Bethesda Talks PS3 Fallout 3 Development
by Robert Gordon
If you ask any gamer, Bethesda's Fallout 3 is one of the most anticipated PS3 titles for the upcoming year.
PSM recently confirmed that they, too, are excited for the PlayStation 3 game and named it their #5 of 2008.
Emil Pagliarulo recently told the magazine that working on the PS3 version of Oblivion made it much smoother sailing to work on Fallout 3.
"Oblivion is a huge game- certainly not easy to create, but we did it. So we've got experience on the platform now. For us, releasing a game on the PlayStation 3 the same day as the 360 and PC versions means we get to draw even more people into our world," said Pagliarulo (via NMA).
PS3 Takes On Amphibian Man
by Billy Brown
What was once old is new again...at least new on PS3.
KDV has announced that their next PlayStation 3 game will be based on Amphibian Man, a 1928 Russian sci-fi novel by Alexander Belyaev.
The details come straight from KDV:
In the XXI century science has made a breakthrough that has changed humanity forever. Mankind was finally able to function under the water without any kind of equipment. Mankind rushed to explore the underwater universe. But the discovery has also escalated old conflicts and problems. Things are coming to a crisis: the civilization is about to split and global war is about to break out.
PS3 Store Gets Massive Update
by Chris Naughton
The bad news is that the PS3 store is not going to be updated next week due to the holidays.
However, the PlayStation store has been crammed so full this week that it really shouldn't matter much anyway. Sony hath given us enough to chow on through the lean week.
Here's what's available in the games/demo/add-on department...we consider the vids to be merely filler:
Downloadable Games
Toy Home ($9.99)
Toy Home is an exciting toy car racing game where your house becomes the racetrack. Weave between other toys strewn across a bedroom floor, hurtle across kitchen tables, dodge toy soldiers and zoom along model railway tracks in moonlit playrooms. PS3 Firmware Update 2.10: Not Useless At All!
by Billy Brown
We've gotten a bit accustomed to PS3 firmware updates that don't really do anything that affects our daily existence.
But the latest PlayStation 3 upgrade to 2.10 actually does improve the firmware in a useful way.
There's a lot on the video side: DivX and VC-1 (a fancy name for Windows Media aka .wmv files) are now fully supported...for the most part. Plus, Blu-ray has finally been updated to Profile 1.1, so picture-in-picture is now a reality.
TS: PS3 LittleBigPlanet & Killzone 2 in LATE '08
by Robert Gordon
It appears that PS3 gamers will have to wait even longer than expected before they can get their hands on both LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2.
According to the semi-official PlayStation 3 blog Three Speech, it's looking more like fall for two of the most killer titles for the console. In a post titled "2008 Preview", the sobering news was laid down.
From around September or October, the PS3 will move into top gear: that’s when Killzone 2 will arrive, to truly take first-person shooters into the next-gen era. And – more excitingly in my book – when LittleBigPlanet – will arrive. Again, LBP will provide an unknown gameplay experience – firstly, because it is so unlike any other game and, secondly, because it will be up to us to define the gameplay.
Capcom: PS3 And Xbox 360 Are Equal, Cost-Wise
by Chris Naughton
There has been criticism of PS3 from various devs since day one who claim the console is more expensive to develop for than Xbox 360.
Nique Fajors, Capcom’s VP of marketing, isn't having any of that. Although the company recently ditched Sony's console for Monster Hunter 3 and went to Wii for that particular title, Capcom still defends the platform.
"If I’m going to make a blanket statement, I’d say that Xbox 360 and PS3 are basically equal [in terms of development costs],” he told Next Generation. "When you look at the tools and technologies and comfort that people have, given that the Xbox 360 has a year lead on PlayStation 3, there are of course more technologies available for a certain genre. So that can make life a little bit easier."
PS3 Uncharted: Only The Tip Of The Iceberg
by Chris Naughton
Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on PS3 is arguably the best looking and, let's face it, best overall title for the console.
And it looks like that's just the tip of the iceberg for PlayStation 3. In a recent interview on Three Speech, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells explained how they've only just scratched the surface of what PS3 can do.
"Currently the Uncharted engine isn’t even taking complete advantage of all the processors on the Cell chip," explained Wells. "We’re essentially using about 1/3 of the power that’s being offered at this time.
