Sony Explains Importance Of First Party Exclusives
by Robert Gordon
First party exclusives are getting rarer these days, with staggered releases being the preferred method of temporary exclusivity by publishers.
Sony head honcho Shuhei Yoshida recently talked about how the new dynamic makes first-party exclusive titles that much more important for the company.
"In this generation, it costs much more to develop one product, it's just natural for third-party publishers trying to recoup the investment from multiple platforms," he told ThreeSpeech.
"I think that's pure economic pressure, pushing most of the third parties to move from some exclusive games to more multi-platform titles."
"Because we know that is the trend, we, as a company, can invest in our first-party studios; in terms of exclusives, our role becomes more important," explained Yoshida.
