PS3 Firmware 2.20 Is Going Portable

by Billy Brown

PS3 UpdateThe much anticipated PS3 firmware update to version 2.20 hasn't happened yet, but there's plenty of buzz about what it will contain.

It's already known that the PlayStation 3 update will include the Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0, otherwise known as BD-Live. BD-Live will enable the console to access extra content downloaded straight from the internet.

But the more interesting feature about added connectivity between the console and Sony's PlayStation Portable comes by way of PC World. The magazine asserts that 2.20 will let PS3 owners replicate their Blu-ray movies onto their PSP.

The word from PC World:

The firmware also exposes "Portable Copy," which enables PS3 users to copy a standard-definition version of the Blu-ray movie to a PlayStation Portable (PSP). You can transfer music and photo playlists from the PS3 to the PSP and use the portable as a remote control for music playback using "Remote Play."

This has yet to be confirmed by Sony, but we're certainly keeping our fingers crossed.
