Xbox 360 Is Searched More Than Twice As Many Times As PS3
By Jeff Crosby
According to overture, the Xbox 360 is searched more than twice as many times as the Sony PS3
At the end of last year, Yahoo released their top searches for 2005. Making the list was the Xbox 360. Now three months later, the Xbox 360 is still the only next gen console on the market, with the Nintendo Revolution and Sony PS3 expected later this year.
By looking at how many times a particular products is searched for, we can see how popular it is compared to other products in the same industry.
Using Overture we can see that the Xbox 360 is searched 11,895.1/day or more than twice as many as the PS3 which is only searched 5,132.7/day. Comparatively, the Nintendo Revolution is only searched 1,486.4/day
One interpretation is that searching tends to be driven by advertising and word of mouth, most of which coming after a product is launched. Since the Xbox 360 is available, it is makes since that it would outrank the PS3 and Nintendo Revolution.
Another interpretation is that search activity is directly correlated to pre-launch hype. In other words, it’s the pre-launch buzz that really drive search traffic. If this is the case, then we can expect to see a huge increase in searches for both the Nintendo Revolution and Sony PS3.
Search results will be interesting to see once the PS3 and Nintendo Revolution are released later this year.
